Bugs That Are Good For Your System!
Six Foods is a Boston based startup that is aiming to make bugs (yes, the kind that you swat at) a part of your daily menu. The company was founded by three recent Harvard graduates (Laura E. D’Asaro, Meryl F. Natow, and Rose Wang) after the three visited parts of Africa and Asia where eating bugs of all kinds is largely the norm.
Realizing the revenue potential that integrating bugs into the American diet could bring, Six Foods was founded.
Six Foods began as part of the Harvard Innovation Lab’s Incubation Program (a 12-week program designed to help Harvard students develop entrepreneurial ideas). Following that program, the company managed to raise more than $70,000 on Kickstarter.
The company produces mainly tortilla-style chips that sell for around $16 per bag (a premium, but with 6 grams of protein per one serving, that’s a price a lot of people are willing to pay). The company already has their signature ‘Chirps Chips’ for sale on Amazon, and will be taking up shelf space in various Boston stores soon.
